Ministerial Visit at Porziuncola by Golden Care
Hon. Malcolm Paul Agius Galea MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing and his delegation visited Porziuncola by Golden Care, the new 400-bedded care home in Bahar Ic-Caghaq, on the 16th of January 2024.
Hon. Malcolm Paul Agius Galea MP and his team were warmly welcomed by Golden Care`s Founder and Director, Mr. Paul Attard, the Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Jackie Camilleri and the management team leading the way to the chapel, where Mr. Attard highlighted the ample services and opportunities for holistic and spiritual wellbeing provided including daily confession, mass and rosary in chapel, carer assisted mass, televised mass in all residents` rooms and various spiritual exercises.
The delegation proceeded to the spacious communal dining area subsequently moved to view the backup kitchen and onsite laundry. Other areas visited included the Hair and Beauty salon, Bereavement Room, Activity Room, and the spacious internal courtyard.
The delegation then moved to the cognitively supported dementia wards on first floor, both of which enjoy spacious lobbies with stunning sea views. Ms Camilleri, COO Golden Care, explained the visual elements including colour coding and signage as well as technological features supporting residents living with dementia.
Ms Camilleri highlighted that the creation of a home like ambience ranks high on Golden Care Home’s agenda, thus all residents’ rooms are equipped with air conditioning, ensuite bathrooms, kitchenette, wardrobes with sufficient storage space and lockable drawers, dedicated TV and desk per resident, medical bed and patient’s chair.
Hon. Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, then moved to the ward’s treatment room at the back of the nursing station. At this juncture Ms. Camilleri articulated the importance of having dedicated nursing stations and treatment rooms on each ward fully equipped with all the necessary equipment. Ms. Camilleri went on to highlight the importance of induction and ongoing training as well as the continuous enforcement of clinical and operational policies to ensure retention of standards and the delivery of good quality care that each resident deserves.
