Golden Care is looking for an Activity Coordinator to initiate an ongoing programme of leisure and recreational activities of a consistently high standard. The activity coordinator`s job description includes planning and executing activities for the elderly designed to promote the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of the elderly.
Key Responsibilities:
• Produce an ongoing interactive programme of events (in-house entertainment, outings and group activities) which is both mentally and physically stimulating and of interest to people who use services.
• Regularly promote leisure and recreation within the service. Also propose interesting ideas on particular months of the year, for example, Easter, Christmas, Clients’ Birthdays and Anniversaries. The aim is to create a home like ambience away from Home and making our clients’ feel special
• Consult with the CEO, Matron, Kitchen Executive, people who use services and other staff members when planning and co-ordinating leisure and recreational pursuits.
• Review and obtain the CEO’s approval of all external suppliers of leisure and recreation services and entertainers prior to engaging them.
• Undertake any necessary risk assessments in connection with leisure and recreation and verify the care home’s insurance cover in this respect
• Ensure that the individual social needs and occupational interests of each person who uses the service are identified and logged in the Support Plan by key workers.
• Maintain accurate records of leisure and recreation within the service. Records will also be made available to the Inspectors from the Eldelry Dept during inspections.
• Ensure that day-to-day tasks and routines are carried out to contribute to the smooth running of the service as a whole.
• Actively promote the service at Golden Care Home by clear, respectful and helpful communication with all potential customers including people who use services, relatives, health and social care professionals, other officials and contractors, visitors as well as colleagues.
• Contribute to the success of the whole staff team by respecting colleagues and participating in team meetings and communications systems.
• Any other duties consistent with the social and activity operational business of Care Home, the job, and hours of work as may be reasonably required
Duties will also include:
Purchasing the items needed for activities.
Setting up rooms for activities and events.
Collecting payments for outings
Organising transport including transport for disabled persons when deemed necessary
Checking out the venue prior an outing to ensure health and safety for all residents and to take appropriate action prior outing if considered necessary for the safety of the Care Home’s clients.
Overseeing the residents to ensure the residents are safe and following the rules and instructions.
Training other activities workers and promoting the care home’s offerings. Depending on the chosen activities, you may need to have physical strength to move things around.
Problem-solving and communication skills enable you to develop appropriate activities and communicate instructions so that the residents understand the rules involved.
